SORDITO presentation on MIPRO 2015

Three SORDITO research team members (T. Erdelić, S. Vrbančić, L. Rožić) participated on MIPRO 2015 conference with the paper entitled „A model of speed profiles for urban road networks using G-means clustering“ (download presentation). The paper proposes a method for determining the speed profiles for urban traffic networks. The method works by processing historical GPS data. The data used in this research (GPS data) were collected between 2009 and 2014 within the city of Zagreb area. The speed profiles are used for travel time forecasting between two points of the network and, in the next step, for solving the time dependent vehicle routing problem (TDVRP).

The paper also proposes G-means algorithm for the speed profile clustering with the purpose of reducing the computer resources required for storing and processing the profiles. The G-means algorithm is based on a well known k-means algorithm with one additional option – automatic definition of a number of clusters. This reduces the deviation of the data from the center of a cluster.

The MIPRO conference is held annually since 1979; each year gathering the experts from the field of information-communication technologies (ICT), electronics and microelectronics. This year over 1000 ICT experts participated in the conference.
