The University of Zagreb, Croatia (UNIZG) is the flagship educational institution in Croatia with 31 faculties, 3 art academies and various university centres and departments. As a comprehensive public Central European university, UNIZG offers education programmes in all scientific fields (arts, biomedicine, biotechnology, engineering, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences) and a broad spectrum of courses at all study levels, from undergraduate to postgraduate for more than 62,000 students. The University excels not only in teaching but also in research, contributing over 50 per cent to the annual research output of Croatia. The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, established in 1984, is a faculty of the The University of Zagreb, and the leading high education as well as scientific and research institution in the field of transport and traffic engineering in Croatia. The Faculty staff participates in national, regional and international scientific, research and development projects funded by the national Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, the European Commission and international institutions. The Faculty also participates in public and commercial projects solving transport and traffic problems of transportation sectors in Croatia as well as logistics problems. International co-operation through the exchange of academic staff and students presents an important part of academic and research activities. The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences offers programs in Traffic and Transport, Intelligent Transport Systems and Logistics and Aeronautics. All the programs are taught at the three-year undergraduate (180 ECTS) and two-year graduate levels (120 ECTS). Postgraduate studies provide three-year Doctoral Studies in the field of Transport and Traffic Engineering, as well as one-year Specialist Studies in Urban Transport and Traffic, Inter-modal Transport and Traffic, and Transport Logistics and Management. The research carried out is of a high international standard and has the goal of providing Modern Transport and Traffic Technology, Infrastructure, Logistics and Intelligent Transport Systems solutions in road, waterway, postal, information and communication, urban, air and railway transport. The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences employs 190 staff out of which 113 are members of the teaching staff and 77 work in administration and other areas. At the Faculty 2332 students are enrolled at this moment. The Department for Transport Logistics is one of the departments at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, at which besides teaching activities many professional and scientific projects are carried out in the field of logistics. At this moment there are 197 students enrolled in the Logistics program. The students are involved in the projects so they can learn practical examples. The Department has the teaching (four professors, two assistant professors and two senior assistants) and non-teaching staff (two).

University of Ljubljana (Univerza v Ljubljani, UL) is is the oldest, largest, and internationally best-ranked university in Slovenia, being among the top 500 universities according to the ARWU Shanghai ranking. The university was established in 1919 and encompasses 23 faculties, 3 art academies and 3 associated members. STUDY – by the number of students UL ranks among the largest HEI in Europe with more than 40.000 students. It covers all ISCED areas in the first and second cycle study programs and leads the way in some new developments in technology and research (cognitive science, nanotechnologies, environmental sciences, biomedicine etc.). By the number of employees, UL ranks as medium-sized HEI and employs approximately 5.700 employees, with more than 3.500 academic staff. RESEARCH ACTIVITY – UL is very active in national and international R&D and educational programmes and creates almost half of the research results of Slovenia. In 2019 UL researchers worked in 307 research groups on 132 national research programmes, 459 national research projects with more than 4.251 registered researchers. INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH – UL is also very active in international research and education programs. In the programming period 2009-2019, the University of Ljubljana altogether cooperated in 1.355 European projects, including 129 FP7 projects, which rank UL in the first place in the EU-13 countries among the research organisations (source MIRRIS report). In 2019 UL was involved in 490 European projects, including 107 running ERASMUS+ projects and 43 projects in the European territorial cooperation programme. The University of Ljubljana is involved in more than 152 HORIZON2020 projects, including 4 ERC grants, 1 ERA-CHAIR and 1 Twinning project, and 21 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. UL is membership in UNICA, Utrecht Network (UN), European University Association (EUA), CEEPUS, the Guild, CELSA, LERU CE7, Central European Exchange Program, CEI University network, SAR Scholars at Risk and Rector’s Conference Alpe Jadran. The Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport (FPP) is an integral part of the University of Ljubljana, an education and training institution engaged in scientific and research work, primarily in the fields of traffic and maritime studies. Currently is employing around 50 highly educated scholars with the highest academic titles, many of them experts in transport, logistics, marine engineering and nautical science. It has modern hardware and software computer equipment and various laboratories for research in the field of transport, logistics and maritime education and science, complemented by a variety of simulators for real-time simulations of real-life traffic situations, and navigation/ engine room simulators for education and training of seafarers. The Faculty has completed the renovation of all undergraduate study programs of the 1st level (Traffic Technology and Transport Logistics, Nautical Studies, Marine Engineering) in, accordance with the Bologna Declaration and two postgraduate master’s study programs of the 2nd degree.

Created in 1957 at the initiative of the French Transport Federation Union, the AFT is the organization responsible for the development of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in the Transport and Logistics industry. Its mission is to work for companies covered by the French national collective agreement for road transport (passengers/ goods) and related activities such as logistics and forwarding, as well as industrial and commercial companies with their own means of transport (private – or own-account – transport). The AFT is a non-profit organization financed by the contribution of companies. It has one hundred employees to successfully fulfil all its duties. It has a decentralized organization based around its regional delegations present in the twenty-one mainland regions. AFT has signed cooperation agreements with the French Ministries for National Education, Higher Education, Transport, Labour and Finance. It has created national and regional steering committees involving social partners, VET providers as well as public authorities dedicated to the VET policy. It also provides expertise, guidance documents and technical assistance for the various national commissions within the sectoral social dialogue including employers’ and employees’ representatives. The AFT performs its basic role of developing VET in the Transport and Logistics industry by: – Defining training needs (VET) and assessing the results – Defining/ designing/ updating VET programmes – Cooperating with the French Ministry of National Education – Developing European ECVET mobility – Informing and advising the public about training and career possibilities in the transport & logistics sector (in particular young people and job seekers) – Advising companies – A Research and Study department to challenge the future The Research and Study Department (DEP) of AFT, which will be the partner in this project, was created in the early 1980s to provide Transport and Logistics industry expertise in the areas of employment skills and qualifications. As such, the department works on a daily basis with the VET Transport and Logistics stakeholders. It participates in and/or manages international, European, national and regional projects. The department covers four fields of activities and competencies: The Research and Studies Department combines experience and expertise in managing national, European and International projects representing learners’, social partners’, public authorities’, Transport and Logistics companies’ interests in the fields of VET and of road transport legislation and policy. – Forecasting (socioeconomic trends/labour market changes/qualification needs) Recommendations in policymaking, writing reports, papers and memorandums and designing VET schemes (pilot projects, benchmarking) – Assessment of the VET policy defined by the social partners and public authorities and the related actions – Technical assistance within international cooperation outside of the European Union The European programmes in which the DEP participates are the following:

• In the regional cooperation: INTERREG and most significantly the MED programme
• The social dialogue in relation to the road.

JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Finland (JAMK) is an institution of professional higher education operating under the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. JAMK, in common with the other Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences is a practically oriented higher education institution with a mission to provide training that reflects the rapidly changing needs of working life locally, nationally and internationally. JAMK provides Bachelor and Masters’ programs and a wide range of professional development and continuing education programs in the fields of Technology, Business, Social & Health, and Teacher Education. The degrees in JAMK’s provision are confirmed by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The number of students is currently c. 8500 and personnel c. 760. In addition, JAMK’s key activities include RDI operations: in 2016, the project funding for RDI equalled 7.7 million euros. Internationally oriented, JAMK was the first higher education institution in Finland to have passed the international audit of the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council (FINHEEC). The Scool of Professional Teacher Education (formerly: Teacher Education College, TEC) at JAMK is a highly esteemed Finnish expert institute in professional pedagogy. The School offers professional teacher education programmes that provide pedagogical qualification required of teachers at vocational schools, vocational special education institutions, vocational adult education centres, and universities of applied sciences. Established in 1962, the School provides basic, further, and continuing education for vocational and higher education teachers. Since 1994, the School has delivered the professional teacher qualification programme also in English. The School has repeatedly been the most sought-after vocational teacher education college in Finland and currently, 800 professionals from various fields study at the School. The School of Professional Teacher Education of JAMK has been the most-sought after Teacher Education College in Finland for many years, also in 2018. The School specializes in teacher education and training through multiform and flexible education that allows competency-based learning, on-the-job learning, and continuous promotion of education and working life co-operation. The School is a member of various national and international networks for inclusive education and collaborates in inclusive teacher education through joint research and teaching activities both nationally and internationally. The School is also one of the pioneers among Finnish higher education institutes in the provision of educational services to international clients.

School Centre Celje, Slovenia (SCC) is a public educational institution, consisting of: – Gimnazija Lava, grammar school – Secondary School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Protection – Secondary School of Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – Secondary School of Services and Logistics – Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Media – Higher Vocational College and – Adult Training Centre. There are: – over 3000 students every year in 30 programs, – 500 higher students, – over 1000 adults In the various programs of formal and informal education and training, – over 300 employees, most highly qualified teachers in various professional fields. The institution has more than 60 years of experience in the field of vocational education and various additional skills and competencies such as project management, ICT skills, organizational skills and experience by working with the environment (small and large businesses, artisans, social partners …) in the region and beyond. The mission of our school centre is to ensure and provide students with a developmentally appropriate education in all our school programs and to ensure our teachers’ professionalism as well as the best educational conditions. An additional unit that is also part of our school centre is Adult Training Centre, which educates adults and also organizes informal educational programs such as digital literacy, practical training, language learning etc. We also have a lot of experience in organizing workshop, roundtable and training programs. We work with different target groups such as migrants, adults, vulnerable groups etc.

Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia, Finland (GRADIA) is a multidisciplinary education provider on the upper secondary education level. The Consortium is owned by several Central Finnish municipalities and it carries out regional development schemes in accordance with the education policy of Central Finland. Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia provides general academic and vocational education for the needs of trade and industry and public sector and is also an active player in the world of work. No. of staff: 1100 (the whole Gradia);700 (VET staff) Gradia is the largest upper secondary education provider in the region and catches around 80 to 90 % of all the age cohort (ca. 3000 young people). IVET (EQF4) and CVET (EQF 4 and 5) are provided in the consortium by Gradia Jyväskylä and Gradia Jämsä. We provide education for more than 8000 young people annually, preparing them for upper secondary general qualifications (2200) as well as dozens of different IVET and CVET qualifications (5800). All VET qualifications are competence (outcome) based. The pre-vocational preparatory program helps comprehensive school-leavers in their study and career choices. We also offer studies towards completing basic education and raising leaving certificate grades, as well as basic art education in music and dance for children and youth.

Srednja škola Zlatar, Croatia (ZLATAR)

Founded in 1996 as a one-class Grammar school currently has 400 students in four different study courses, 52 part-time and full-time teachers and 12 members of administration and maintenance staff. Study courses include Logistics and freight technicians, IT technicians, General Secondary school and the Administrative Assistants course, each of them having one class per generation. Class sizes range from 20 to 28 students per class. There are around 90 students in the department of Logistics and freight technicians with three teachers specialized in transport and logistics, one in economics and four foreign language staff members teaching English and German for Specific Purposes. Apart from vocational subjects for logistics and freight, students are taught general subjects in the first two years and Croatian language, mathematics as well as two foreign languages; English and German during all four years of education. Teachers and students participate in various extra-curricular activities, among others students participate in county and state-level competitions in both general areas of study and vocational ones being awarded for presented theoretical knowledge and innovative work, as well as eTwinning projects with partners across Europe. The school was awarded Silver Logo as International Eco-School, the largest global sustainable schools programme. The school cooperates closely with companies where students assist and gain work experience, which prepares them for the labour market. Many of our former students now own transportation and logistics companies that operate internationally. Teacher invests considerable effort into educating students for their future role in the labour market. Students are also encouraged to further continue their education at the tertiary level with 90 % of students taking state graduation exam, which is a condition for enrolling into university.

Škola za cestovni promet, Croatia (The School for Road Traffic and Transportation, ŠCP) is a public secondary vocational school from Zagreb. The school has almost 70 years old tradition in education and training in the area of road transport and logistics (founded in 1949.). It is the only, exclusively traffic vocational school in the Republic of Croatia. The activities of the secondary vocational school are the following:

1. EDUCATION OF STUDENTS ACQUIRING SECONDARY VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Road transport technician (four-year program)
• Logistics and freight forwarding technician (four-year program)
• A motor vehicle driver (a three-year program)

4. PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF ADULTS for occupation, a motor vehicle driver, transporting dangerous goods in road transport and training for machinery and devices’ operators.

6. PUBLISHING ACTIVITY 770 students (in 32 classes) and about 500 adult students have been enrolled on the school in the year 2016/17.

Courses are taught by experienced teachers (60 teachers), enabling the students and adult learners to complete the program successfully. Teachers regularly attending specializing courses and training, so we have one teacher – Master Specialist, one teacher – Master of Science, 5 teachers – advisors and 4 teachers – mentors. They are actively involved in projects and international cooperation, too. Detailed programs follow contemporary technology, continuously adapting to the demands of labour. Classes are held in well-equipped classrooms, specialized classrooms and school practicums and in businesses. For education and drivers’ training, the school owns a well-equipped driving park, consisting of three cargo trucks and four cars. With good material and working conditions, timely planning of theoretical and practical training, exercises and exams, The School for Road Traffic and Transportation provides very favourable conditions for the education of regular students and adult learners. The school collaborates with other traffic schools in Croatia and is actively involved in international projects. Implemented projects:

Strokovni izobrazevalni center Ljubljana, Slovenia (SIC Ljubljana) is a vocational and technical school, founded in 1962, which prepares students to enter the labour market or continue their education. It provides programmes in the fields of logistics, textile and mechanical engineering. The following courses are offered: a) Short-cycle vocational education – 2 years: Assistant in Technology Processes, Textile Reworker; b) Vocational secondary education – 3 years: Car Mechatronic, Vehicle Body Repairer, Industrial Mechanic, Metal Sharper-Tollmaker, Tinsmith-Roofer, Dressmaker; c) Vocational-technical education – 3 + 2 years: Mechanical Engineering Technician, Automotive Service Technician, Technician of Mechatronics, Logistics Technician, Creator of Fashion Clothing; d) Technical secondary education (4 years): Logistics Technician, Creator of Fashion Clothing. Approximately 1080 students and 800 adults are enrolled each year. In the last ten years, the school has been actively involved in the process of renewal of vocational and technical education in Slovenia, with a strong emphasis on mastering the key competencies and in the light of closer cooperation between education and the labour market. The school has acquired a wealth of experience, which helped in the development of modern didactic and pedagogical approaches. The school offers unique and exciting learning opportunities by working closely with craftsmen and many different companies. In addition to the regular educational programme, the courses for adult education are carried out as well. There are additional two organisational units being part of the organisation: Driving school Ježica with training for all driving categories and Intercompany Education and Training Centre (MIC), offering a key link between education and the labour market. All efforts of the organisation are aimed at making a better future for students and trainees.

Istituto di Istruzione Secondaria Superiore “A.Berenini“, Italy (I.I.S.S. Berenini) is a public science and technology secondary school (with about 800 students and 100 members of staff) located in a small town called Fidenza, in the province of Parma counting almost 28.000 inhabitants with a school population aged between 14 and 18 that comes mainly from local areas and towns but also a minority of 1st or 2nd generation immigrants. Our state school was set in 1963 and it has been developing its curriculum since then by introducing new core subjects to comply with the local and regional community demands for specialised technicians but also to offer our students a higher level of scientific education in order to attend university. Hence the two levels of qualification delivered corresponding to a Technical branch, providing students with industry oriented quality education to become electronics and mechatronics technicians, mechanics, or experts in chemistry, transport and logistics and building surveyors and to an Applied Sciences Institute being housed within the school building but with a focus on learning areas like Physics, Maths, Natural Sciences, IT, English, Humanities and the Arts. A new qualification has been added this year as a response to the demands of local fashion manufacturing industries requiring specialised fashion designers. Our students are offered a choice of extra courses if they are interested in CAD design, English for Cambridge certifications (PET, FIRST), Maths workshops, Computer science Licence (ECDL) and job experience through a work placement in related sectors as a part of their school curriculum.
