Study Programme
The university level studies program of aeronautics is intended for education and qualification of students for the performance of highly complex jobs in the public and private sector, scientific research and development, and the application of scientific and professional achievements. The study is primarily oriented towards air traffic, transport and flight, and aeroplane and airspace exploitation. Through undergraduate study programmes (modules) certified by Croatian and European aeronautical authorities, students are trained as pilots and air traffic controllers. Therefore, students who graduate meet the requirements for the acquisition of permits and licenses as pilots and air traffic controllers. Although this is the primary aspect of the undergraduate studies, it is not required and students can complete one of the modules (civil pilot, military pilot, air traffic control) which do not lead to the acquisition of permits and licences. However, any course module and course selection provides the students with an internationally defined level of knowledge, skills and abilities which enable them to perform in their field upon graduation.
The undergraduate study of aeronautics has been designed for small enlistment quotas and therefore the specialist study profiles are conducted through elective modules formed by elective courses. The classes are divided into three elective modules: military pilot, civil pilot and air traffic control. The curriculum of aeronautical studies provides the students with practical skills which they acquire through practical courses in air traffic control and air traffic participation. These practical exercises are in accordance with the Air traffic act and the courses are based on the prescribed organisational structure know as “class base and practical courses workplace”. The base for practical courses in navigation and flying, Croatian Aviation Training Centre, is located at the Lučko airport. It operates according to the Part-FCL regulation and is recognized as an ATO or Approved Training Organization.
A separate organisational unit, the Croatian Air Traffic Control Education Centre (HUSK), was founded in order to conduct practical courses in air traffic control. The Croatian Air Traffic Control Centre is internationally recognised as an ATC Training Organisation.
The graduate study of aeronautics offers knowledge and skills required for the use of aircraft and the organisation and control of processes in air traffic. The study programme consists of two course groups: required and elective courses. The required courses deal with theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to air traffic technologies, aircraft maintenance, helicopter flight theory, flight theory and high speed aerodynamics. The elective courses enable the students to pursue their interests and define themselves professionally. Elective courses are modelled according to the completed undergraduate module (pilot or air traffic control) and represent a logical continuation to the knowledge acquired at the undergraduate level. This concept of continuation of the undergraduate level, definition of required courses and personal selection of elective courses gives students specific and practical knowledge and skills in the field of aeronautics.
