Recieved project from the “Smart Traffic Solution” Foundation

On September 21, 2020, a funding agreement for the project named “Control system of the spatial-temporal variable speed limit in the environment of connected vehicles” was signed between a Ph.D. candidate Krešimir Kušić and the Scientific Foundation of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (https://www.fpz.unizg.hr/zaklada/).

The contract’s total value is 49,989.84 kn. The project is funded under the Foundation called “Smart Traffic Solution”. The project team would like to thank the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (FTTS) to establish a Scientific Foundation to support Ph.D. students in their research.

Project goals:

1. Determine the impact of the spatial location of the Variable Speed Limit (VSL) zone on traffic flow optimization in congested areas of an urban motorway.

2. Develop the adaptable spatial-temporal VSL system using multi-policy optimization techniques in multi-agent environments, emphasizing collaboration between VSL agents for better flow optimization using Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning-based techniques.

3. Finally, we will test the developed system on various traffic scenarios with varying flow homogeneity containing simulations of vehicles with certain autonomous levels concerning speed control (e.g., Intelligent Speed Adaptation system).
