In the era of rapid digitalization, citizens, businesses, and institutions increasingly rely on digital services and "smart" devices, using network and information systems, which heightens society's sensitivity to cyber threats and exposes individuals to greater dangers. Various types of cyber threats and attacks affect everyday life and business operations, including theft of personal, financial, and business data, computer fraud, and interception of electronic communications. For this reason, it is crucial to develop awareness of potential cyber threats and how to effectively protect against them. One promising approach is quantum cryptography.

During the panel discussion, more information was shared about the importance, development, and application of quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution, and how they protect communication in environments such as critical infrastructure (industry, transport, healthcare, etc.) and other security-sensitive settings in Croatia, Europe, and globally. Additionally, discussions included how Croatia is investing efforts in communication protection and cybersecurity in the upcoming quantum era and what the project for building the Croatian Quantum Communication Infrastructure - CroQCI entails.

Panelists:

Assistant Professor Ivan Cvitić, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences
Associate Professor Saša Ilijić, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing
Dunja Ivković, CARNET
Dr. Martin Lončarić, Ruđer Bošković Institute
Moderator: Davor Jovanović, University of Zagreb, University Computing Centre
