On April 30, 2024, undergraduate and graduate students of the Traffic study program, specializing in Information and Communication Traffic, along with staff from the Department for Information and Communication Traffic, had a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge beyond the faculty premises during an organized tour of the Kaufland Croatia data center, located in the logistics center in Jastrebarsko.
This educational visit was a continuation of the lectures on "Planning, Building, and Maintaining Secure IT Infrastructure" by Dr. Mijo Šarčević, head of the IT department at Kaufland Croatia, who also led this visit with the support of Mr. Dean Crnjak, the head of technical maintenance and occupational safety. Under their guidance, students had the chance to firsthand see the complex processes that support operations in the 100,000 square meter logistics center. Throughout the tour, students realized how high-quality information and communication support enables smooth operation and communication between the logistics center and all Kaufland branches in the region.
In addition to insights into operational processes, the focus of the visit was on acquainting students with advanced physical protection mechanisms. They were introduced to fire protection systems, access control, and the implementation of redundancy in communication links and power sources, which are crucial for maintaining business continuity in the event of unexpected interruptions.
This visit to the Kaufland Croatia data center provided the students not only with theoretical knowledge but also practical insights into the challenges and solutions associated with building and maintaining robust IT systems in large corporate environments. Our students thus had the opportunity to understand how vital the integration of information and communication technologies is in the modern business world.
