On 24 February 2026, the first QuGNOPs project kick-off meeting, took place at DLR in Oberpfaffenhofen, bringing together German and Croatian project partners to officially kick off the project..

The German consortium includes representatives from DLR GfR mbH and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. The Croatian partners are the FER (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb), Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences (FPZ, University of Zagreb), CARNET - Croatian Academic and Research Network, and the Ruđer Bošković Institute (IRB).

The QuGNOPs project aims to establish a secure satellite-based quantum communication link between Germany and Croatia. This connection will enable protected cross-border data exchange and contribute to strengthening Europe’s quantum communication infrastructure. By linking national quantum networks, the project supports the development of a resilient and sovereign European secure communications ecosystem.

The project is funded by the European Commission under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Digital) programme while the Croatian part of the consortium is co-funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth (MZOM).
