On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the closing event of the Croatian Quantum Communication Infrastructure - CroQCI project was held at the National and University Library. This project is one of the key national projects in the field of secure communication and the development of quantum technologies in Croatia. The event presented the project's most important results, ranging from the development of the conceptual solution and the establishment of an experimental network for quantum communication to devices for secure communication.

This is a field that will become increasingly important in the coming years for protecting critical infrastructure, and that is precisely why we are especially pleased that staff members of the Department of Information and Communication Traffic presented their contribution across three segments of the program.

- In the thematic session "Defending Communication in a Post-Quantum World", Josip Vladava, mag. ing. traff., reflected on the accelerated development of national quantum strategies worldwide and the key global events that have created a sense of urgency to begin developing quantum communication infrastructure today. Through concrete examples of security challenges in sensitive sectors such as finance, energy, and diplomacy, he highlighted the importance of implementing quantum communication infrastructure.
- In the thematic session "Technological Foundations of National Quantum Infrastructure", Assistant Professor Ivan Cvitić, PhD, presented the concept of the national quantum communication architecture of the Republic of Croatia, developed as the foundation for establishing a secure, reliable, and long-term sustainable national infrastructure for cryptographic key exchange using quantum technologies. Special emphasis was placed on future possibilities for connecting Croatia's quantum communication infrastructure with that of other European Union member states, which would make the Republic of Croatia an integral part of the unified European ultra-secure communications area being developed under the EuroQCI initiative.
- In the final session, "What Quantum Communication Infrastructure Brings", Professor Dragan Peraković, PhD, took part in a panel discussion and shared his perspective on the challenges in the further development of the ecosystem in Croatia, as well as the possibilities for applying quantum communication technologies across various business verticals. Along with his conclusions, he also gave a brief outline of the future direction of researchers from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences in further research and projects, and of the necessity of technology transfer as a trigger for faster development and the sooner application of the technology in operational work.

The participation of our staff confirms the Faculty's expertise and recognition in the field of quantum communication technologies and cybersecurity. We thank everyone who took part in this important undertaking, and the successful completion of the project also opens the way for new development steps and future collaborations.
